In 2010 after the loss to Inter I felt the same way but you know what we bounced back very strongly the next season and won the league and champions league.Demonoidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05664982575970712218noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6247990710532147544.post-19222724650305866522012-04-25T13:55:18.366-04:002012-04-25T13:55:18.366-04:00Excellent essay and well captured. No team in world football have countered plan A even at parking the bus, its a one of thing.. Always and forever a culé... I know it's been a tough go this season but still there is nothing to be ashamed of, and a lot of potential for the future. Forever Barca!kathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06158808398812565007noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6247990710532147544.post-90229823338746844112012-04-25T03:57:30.868-04:002012-04-25T03:57:30.868-04:00I's rather loose a 1000 times with Barça style...I's rather loose a 1000 times with Barça style than win with the ugly horrendous Chelsea football.
Yes, what this team has given us is priceless and yesterday I could see evidence of this:
After watching the match at a friend's home I took a subway train full of supporters coming back from the stadium. It was like a funeral, but the guy standing by my side was texting on his phone: "We'll rise again" and the guy on the other side was texting: "I'm proud of this team". Lots of them were texting and I'm sure all messages were similar. When you have been a Barça supporter for more than 30 years, like me, and you know how Barça supporters used to be after a defeat you realize what an amazing thing this Pep team has achieved... The entire stadium singing the anthem at the end of the match after a defeat? WOW! That is priceless. Yes, we believe in our team.La nena del pouhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02085428760309345681noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6247990710532147544.post-54625690228274670092012-04-25T03:57:06.971-04:002012-04-25T03:57:06.971-04:00Zlatan would have fixed the tempo? He had the potential to offer variety, but during his time here he did not. So there is no use talking about that now. And Pep did not "go after Zlatan" the way you say. Villa was the first choice. The club spent months going after Villa that summer before suddenly, and to everyone's shock, swerving for Zlatan instead and this is down to two things: 1) Valencia's demand for more money for Villa than Barca was willing to pay, and more importantly, 2) Man City's move for Eto'o falling through.

Guardiola's main concern that season was getting rid of Eto'o. He insisted on it. When the transfer period was coming to a close and Eto'o still didn't have a suitor, the club needed to act fast to make a move that would both offload & replace him. A trade with Valencia was not an option as they desperately needed the money - the following summer they agreed on the spot to sell Villa to Barca for 10 million less than their initial asking price - so the Ibra deal was struck. No one saw it coming. And sure the prospect was exciting, but it was soon clear what a mistake it was.

I wrote a little bit about this at the time: http://barcelista.blogspot.com/2010/07/barcas-striker-issue.html

I doubt having Zlatan last night would have made more of a difference than say, having Villa. Again, it is the injuries that have taken the greatest toll on Barca.Aya Krishthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04126362015228752099noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6247990710532147544.post-52119029410169709912012-04-25T03:38:34.994-04:002012-04-25T03:38:34.994-04:00Excellent piece. I agree with almost everything except the "Plan B" rejection.

Plan B doesnt mean defensive football it means having a variety to what you are doing. If Barcelona played for another 45 minutes I doubt they would have scored last night, cause the shape/pattern was set. Barcelona were passing it around but not at tempo and not with penetration. Lack of central defenders for Chelsea wasnt exposed cause they were only being tested on floor in tight/compact areas.

Having Zlatan was that Plan B. Im not saying he should have stayed, NO.

Pep recognized that and hence went for Zlatan.

Having a bigger target man as an option would not mean you lump balls up only but it means you have the option to mix things up a little bit so you're not predictable when you cant break the opposition down.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6247990710532147544.post-46649910990593542942012-04-25T03:36:42.060-04:002012-04-25T03:36:42.060-04:00+100000000000000000
